Contradictory statements from wrestler and husband Somvir cause confusion

Vinesh Phogat was in top form at the Olympic Games in Paris, where she reached the final of her weight class.

Vinesh Phogat not winning a medal at the Paris Olympics is not considered a major issue. What hurts fans more is that the wrestler announced her retirement after the major heartache that led to her being disqualified despite making it to the finals of the women’s 50kg category. And since the announcement of this decision, there have been conflicting reports on whether Vinesh will make a comeback or not.

Vinesh Phogat Retirement

Although fans definitely want to see her back on the mat, it seems unlikely. Many have confirmed on various occasions that she will not return despite all the hardships she has been through. Speaking to the media, her husband Somvir Rathee reiterated that she will not change her decision even though Vinesh still has a lot of ring experience left in him.

“She is not coming back. It is not an impulsive decision. We have thought about it and discussed it several times,” he told The Bridge.

“I know Vinesh still has a lot of wrestling left to offer and she had planned until 2032. But without support from the federation and so much fight to get what we deserve, I think this is the right decision. This is the best thing she could have done and without support it will be tough for us,” he said.

But that is not really what Vinesh told the media. When she returned to her village, she said, “Maybe I could return to wrestling. I don’t know if I would continue wrestling or not, but the courage I have today, I want to channel it in the right direction. Our fight is not over and the fight will continue and I pray to God that truth will prevail.”

These two conflicting statements have only increased the confusion among fans and left them speculating. And if she does finally decide to make a comeback, one thing is for sure, it won’t happen anytime soon.
