Gypsy Rose Blanchard reveals whether she will tell her child about her mother’s death

Gypsy Rose Blanchard has spoken about her pregnancy.

The 32-year-old media personality announced on July 9 via an Instagram post and YouTube video that she is expecting her first child with former fiancé Ken Urker. On Friday, July 12, she explained in an interview with Good morning America how she would deal with telling her future child about her mother’s death.

Blanchard served more than eight years in Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center after plotting the murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, in 2015 with her then-boyfriend Nicholas “Nick” Godejohn before being released in December 2023.

She met her child’s father, Urker, in 2018 while serving her prison sentence. The two were engaged in 2019, although Urker ended the relationship in 2020. Blanchard then contacted her pen pal Ryan Anderson, whom she married in 2022. In March, just three months after her release from prison, she filed for divorce from Anderson and later reconnected with Urker.

“This question has been on my mind for a long time,” she said when asked if her child would ever find out about her prison sentence. “And I’ve come to a point where I understand that my child will ask this question one day.”

“I think when the time comes, Ken and I will sit down and have the conversation and I will explain it as honestly as I can.”

She also took the time to respond to critics who questioned whether she would be a good mother. “I understand that given my past, there will be a lot of people who will question whether I should even be a mother or have children,” Blanchard said.

“I know I’m not perfect. I know I’ve made mistakes in the past. And I’ll probably make minor mistakes in the future. But at the same time, I know what’s right and what’s wrong. And learning from past mistakes is a development that comes with time.”

One of her main goals as a mother is to give her future child a life that she was not able to experience because she grew up in an abusive environment, she explained.

“My mom didn’t want me to experience the milestones that every kid should experience, like a first date, prom, you know, a bike ride. All those little milestones that make life worth living, I didn’t experience,” she said. “And so I want my kid to have all the things that he could ever want in life.”

And although Blanchard’s life was made famous by her Lifetime documentary series entitled Gypsy Rose: Life after prisonHowever, she mentioned that she does not want her own child to be on camera.

“Once the baby is born, I don’t want to see it on camera anymore unless it’s for private videos,” Blanchard said. “I’m not going to put my child in the media at all.”

“This world is so cruel and unsafe that I have a certain responsibility to keep my child safe,” she added.
