Katy Perry video under investigation after allegedly filmed in restricted area without permission

Katy Perry is in trouble in Spain because she allegedly shot the music video for her new single “Lifetimes” in a protected area without the necessary permission.

According to a statement released by the regional government on Tuesday, the Balearic authorities are investigating the production company that worked on the video shot in the Ses Salines Natural Park “without obtaining authorization”.

In the video, which premiered on August 8, Perry is seen singing and dancing on protected sand dunes.

Although the regional government said it was investigating the music video, it clarified that it was not a “crime against the environment” as filming in the area was allowed with a permit.

CNN has reached out to Perry’s representative for comment.

The controversy is the latest incident in a difficult time for Perry, whose current single “Woman’s World” has been criticized for perpetuating outdated stereotypes.

The singer has also come under criticism for collaborating with controversial producer Dr. Luke on the song.

In June 2023, singer Kesha and Dr. Luke, real name Lukasz Gottwald, reached an agreement to resolve a legal dispute in which they had been involved since 2014.

Kesha filed a lawsuit against Gottwald that same year to get out of her record deal, claiming he drugged, emotionally abused and sexually assaulted her.

Gottwald denied these allegations for a long time and filed a countersuit against the singer in the same year for defamation and breach of contract.

Gottwald has worked on some of Perry’s biggest hits and the singer has decided to collaborate with him again on her upcoming album, “143,” which is set to be released on September 20.

In May, Perry left her role as a judge on “American Idol” after seven seasons of the show.
