Colchester wants to build on championship success

COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – Colchester fell to North Country by just one point in the D2 championship game a year ago after defeating top-ranked Fair Haven in the semifinals.

The Lakers started the year 1-4 but rebounded, winning two of their last three games to secure a home game in the first round of the postseason. This year, some big names like Mason Cardinal and Jordan Lavoie are gone, but with some leaders emerging on the interior, the Lakers are eager to get back to the final stretch of the season.

“We really want to win,” senior linebacker Owen Fullerton said. “Last year we did it, but not all the way through. If we push the younger players to do their best and we do our best, I think we can go really far this year.”

“It was our goal to get to or win this game this year,” added senior wide receiver Hunter Sahagun. “That’s a goal we have. I think it’s something we work on and something we want to accomplish to win, so I wouldn’t call it a burden.”

“I’m just ready to go,” senior lineman Jack Robinson said. “I feel like it’s been a while, especially after last year. We just want to get going, get on the field and be ready to play. We just have to take it one game at a time because we know that’s the best way to go.”
