Bob Tischler dies at 78: Former head writer of Saturday Night Live dies after battling pancreatic cancer in his home in California

Bob Tischler, former head writer for Saturday Night Live, has died at the age of 78.

His son Zeke told the New York Times that his father died after battling pancreatic cancer.

Tischler died on July 13 at his home in Bodega Bay, California.

The Times points out that Tischler played a role in reviving Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s after the variety show suffered a lull.

The series experienced its “worst season” from November 1980 to April 1981, as the magazine noted. Tischer was hired as a producer in the spring of 1981 and became head writer of the series the following year.
