Yuma will participate in the Mayors’ International Bike Tour on October 26

Residents and families are invited to join the 8th Annual Mayors International Bike Ride, beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, in the parking lot of the Yuma Civic Center, 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive.

The family-friendly ride is both an exploration and a celebration of Yuma and its neighbors, with stops every 4 to 5 miles

The route is fully supported and monitored by local public safety authorities.

Thanks to the generous support of community partners and businesses, this event is free for all. The first 400 people to register will receive a free, official event t-shirt. The Mayors’ International Bike Ride is designed for cyclists of all ages. No previous experience is necessary, however, participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Mayors and elected officials from across Yuma County, neighboring tribes, regional cities and San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico will accompany participants and cheer them on along the way.

From the Yuma Civic Center, stops are planned at Cocopah Korner as well as Somerton, Gadsden and San Luis.

Water, snacks and restrooms are available at each stop. The ride ends with a finish party in San Luis Rio Colorado. The finish party features live music, food stands and medals for the cyclists.

“For eight years now, this bike ride has been our premier tradition for the communities of our binational mega-region to celebrate our unique geographic strengths, the beauty of our natural environment, and our cultures and friendships,” said Yuma Mayor Douglas Nicholls. “All while doing a healthy activity together. Come join us!”

On-site registration begins at 7 a.m. in the Yuma Civic Center parking lot. Participants must complete a waiver to participate.

All participants should bring sunscreen, bicycle and helmet, and the appropriate documents for crossing the international border. Comfortable clothing is recommended.

Drivers are advised to bring appropriate documentation for their return to the United States when crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

Those crossing the border should travel light and limit the use of large bags and backpacks.

YCAT will provide public transportation back to the Civic Center after the event concludes, however those who wish to travel on their own schedule should arrange their ride home (or back to their vehicle) after the event.
