Trump comes downtown, cooperation between tribes

“Daily Kos fights for a progressive America by providing its community and allies with information and tools to directly influence the political process.”

This week’s edition is about my trip downtown on Wednesday where I met Trump for the first time. It was a very fun experience and I couldn’t stop grinning all day.

Reporting for DKos Asheville

My daughter and a friend spent over two hours downtown at the Trump rally on Wednesday, and it was a blast! I just chatted with people about their outfits and signs they proudly displayed alongside their big smiles. Because of the small venue, there were a lot more Trump supporters outside than inside, and everyone seemed to be standing around for no reason other than hoping to catch a glimpse of his Suburban.

The street was split in half because they were expecting a large protest crowd that never materialized. It seemed so lame with a few Trump supporters and a few protesters yelling at each other across the wide street. Most people just stood around and no one seemed to know what to do. For hours. The bright side, though, was that everyone just seemed happy to be there as part of the club. It had a childish feel to it that reminded me of baseball card shows or Boy Scout meetings. I think my takeaway was that MAGA is getting bored of the hobby but still finds the social appeal of dressing up and partying with their friends. The following film is from 8/14, not 8/16.

WLOS Former President Donald Trump visited Asheville on Wednesday, August 14, to talk about the economy. News 13 crews covered everything from his arrival at Asheville Regional Airport in the afternoon to his stop at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville.

Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians takes significant step to strengthen intertribal cooperation

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – On August 13 and 14, representatives of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), including Chief Michell Hicks and members of the Tribal Council, traveled to Hollywood, Florida to meet with leaders of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians, Mississippi Tribe of Choctaw Indians and Seminole Tribe of Florida. The meeting was a pivotal moment in ongoing efforts to create a new intertribal alliance focused on advancing tribal sovereignty, economic development and protecting sacred lands.

During the meeting, significant progress was made. The delegation began drafting an agreement outlining the common goals of this emerging alliance. This agreement is intended to become a cornerstone of a joint effort to protect and promote the interests of indigenous peoples throughout the country.

“It is always very powerful to sit with our tribal leaders – people who share our values, our commitment to sovereignty and our vision for the future,” said Chief Hicks. “These are nations that have demonstrated their strength, resilience and success time and time again. Whether through thriving economies, cultural preservation efforts or strong governance, each of our tribes has proven time and time again that we can adapt, thrive and lead. I am really excited about the progress we have made because it is about building something that benefits not only our nations but all Indigenous peoples. It is personal to us – it is about our future.”
