Four in a Bed owner moved to tears as ‘tough’ showdown takes unexpected turn | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

A Four in a Bed contestant was left emotional during tonight’s episode, breaking down in tears after receiving an unexpected payment – despite “harsh” comments. The hit Channel 4 show sees B&Bs compete by spending the night in each other’s accommodation, earning points and payments based on how much each team thinks the room is worth.

In addition to viewers, Saturday’s episode featured guests at the Masons Arms in Meysey Hampton (Gloucestershire), Shona and John, owners of Larch Green Lodges in Renfrewshire and the George Inn in Barton-upon-Humber (North Lincolnshire).

At the end of the week, the hosts met again to finally receive their payouts and settle some bills.

The moment of truth brought great tragedy for Craig Bonar, the owner of a guest house in Edinburgh, who was moved to tears when he learned how much his guests were willing to pay for his rooms.

When Craig reviewed guest reviews, he was disappointed that Cameron and Dani McKinnon gave the cleanliness a seven.

He said: “Seven, oh my goodness. Dani and Cameron’s comments about cleanliness were very hard to take and I found them a bit unfair, but I’m happy to discuss it with them.”

He also wanted to confront guests Shona and John Mitchell about some of their reviews. Craig then asked them why they had given him a nine for his facilities.

He pointed out: “There was a little comment where you mentioned the scratches on the wall – what do you mean by that?”

John explained: “You have a small table in the bedroom and someone has probably been careless and just smeared the walls. A little attention to detail and touching up those little spots is all it takes.”

Craig seemed to disagree, saying, “Sometimes touching up old paint actually makes it look worse.” Cameron noted, “I sense a little discomfort in Craig about the walls because he’s a person who pays attention to detail.”

Craig later told the camera, “You can’t repaint the whole room every time a guest comes, so I think sometimes a little scratch here and there isn’t a big deal.”

After confronting them with their feedback, Craig later described the couple’s assessment as “a bit harsh”. However, he was later surprised that he still managed to get the full £169 payment from both couples.

Craig was visibly touched by the gesture and fought back tears as he said, “Thank you so much. You know what? It’s been a long journey.”

Speaking to the camera, he added: “I got a bit emotional about it, I put so much effort into the property. Despite the negative feedback, it’s great to see that I’ve been offered full payment and they see that it was good value for money.”
