Ministry of Agriculture: Banks must repay amounts waived by 22,000 farmers due to incorrect information

Responding to the protests against the farm loan waiver, the Agriculture Ministry urged farmers not to worry as the process was still ongoing for farmers who had taken loans of more than Rs 200,000.

In a statement here, the department officials said that due to technical reasons and incorrect data such as Aadhar details not matching with the details in the bank and passbook, the amount deposited by the government was being rejected in some cases.

So far, money has been returned from 22,000 accounts due to minor errors. The department is correcting these errors and crediting the amount back to the accounts. So far, money has already been credited to 8,000 such accounts.

For crop loans above Rs 200,000, farmers will have to deposit the difference in their banks, according to officials. If a farmer has a loan of Rs 210,000, he will have to deposit Rs 10,000 in his account and the government will deposit Rs 200,000 in the bank to repay the loan.

Officials also said that farmers who have not yet received loans of Rs 200,000 should visit the Mandal Agriculture Officer to find out the reason. They should submit their Aadhar details and other proofs so that the errors are corrected. Farmers can also check the reasons for rejection of loan waiver on the loan waiver portal.

Mandal agriculture officials would personally verify the family details by visiting their residence and also check why the farmers’ details were not registered on the portal. All such complaints on the applications received from the farmers would be resolved within a month.
