Fairs connect UNG with its communities

UNG will host Community Engagement Fairs on its Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses in August to help students, faculty and staff become involved in communities near campus.

The University of North Georgia (UNG) is hosting Community Engagement Fairs (CEFs) this month on its Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses to provide students, faculty and staff with opportunities for volunteerism, service-learning, workplace learning and other forms of partnership. Event details are as follows:

  • Dahlonega Campus CEF: August 21, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Hoag ABC Rooms
  • Gainesville CEF: August 28, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nesbitt 3110AB

At the fairs, students can speak with representatives of local organizations related to their areas of interest. Students can find volunteer and internship opportunities, while faculty and staff can network with each other in their research, teaching and leadership roles.

“Our Community Engagement Fairs are often the first meeting point between members of our campus community and organizations serving our region. They provide our campus members with an opportunity to connect with the surrounding communities to promote learning, growth, development and engagement,” said Maxine Douglas, who leads the Gainesville Campus CEF and is the Director of Academic Engagement and a lecturer in Sociology and Human Services. “I invite all members of the campus community, including faculty, staff and students, to attend at least one CEF this year to explore academic and community engagement opportunities and connect with community partners and organizations.”

Dr. Esther Morgan-Ellis, assistant director for academic engagement and professor of music, directs the Dahlonega Campus CEF.

“Our community partners are eager to connect with members of the UNG community to pursue shared goals. The best learning happens outside the classroom,” Morgan-Ellis said. “This is an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to make connections that will have a significant long-term impact on our educational goals.”
