Shooting victim discovered during nighttime traffic stop in Statesboro

During a routine traffic stop by Bulloch County Sheriff’s officers early Saturday morning, a gunshot victim was discovered on Lanier Drive. The driver, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was discovered during a traffic stop and flown to Memorial Health in Savannah for treatment.

A routine traffic stop on Lanier Drive in the city took a dramatic turn early Saturday morning when Bulloch County Sheriff’s officers discovered a shooting victim in the vehicle they stopped.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on August 17, 2024. Officers were conducting a traffic safety stop and stopped a vehicle that was exiting a residential area. Upon investigation, they found that the male driver had multiple gunshot wounds.

Despite his serious injuries, the man managed to give a brief statement to Statesboro Police Department detectives before being flown by helicopter to Memorial Health in Savannah for treatment.

According to Statesboro police, investigators believe the shooting occurred at a different location on Lanier Drive. The victim then apparently drove himself to the traffic stop to get help.

The investigation is ongoing and authorities are asking the public for any information that may help clarify the circumstances of this shooting.
