When your beloved cat is lost, you suddenly realize that your best ally in finding him in such a big world is something smaller than a grain of rice. It’s a microchip, plus a current phone number and address. For example, the Charleston Animal Society reported an incredible microchip encounter for a cat named “Sam Sam The Kitty Cat Man.”
What makes this reunion even more wonderful is that they witnessed the emotional moment when Sam’s mother arrived after missing her sweet cat for 11 years. It was a once in a lifetime moment and such a joy to witness!
“Sam Sam, the Cat Man”
Imagine missing your cat for eleven years! That’s what happened to Jennifer Ravenel, who got the shock of her life when the Charleston Animal Society called her. After more than a decade, the information on Sam’s microchip still led back to her.
At first she thought the caller was playing a cruel joke. It couldn’t possibly be Sam! But it was real. One day Sam stopped by the animal shelter and someone finally had the chance to scan him for a chip.
“I told everyone. You won’t believe what happened to me!” said Jennifer.
As expected, she was extremely excited and immediately went to the animal shelter. When Jennifer entered the room, she saw “Sam Sam the Cat Man” and the tears started to flow. And she wasn’t the only one crying.
“There wasn’t a dry eye in the whole house,” said the rescuer.
Overjoyed staff applauded as she carried the kitten through the shelter. It was definitely a once in a lifetime moment! Did Sam Sam recognize her? We’re sure he did, although he must have wondered what on earth happened after 11 years.
What stories could this kitten tell over a decade away from home?
“Sam Sam, the cat man! I missed you so much,” said a crying Jennifer.
With her long-lost kitten in her arms, she explained what had happened all those years ago.
“And look, I’ve searched the forest over and over again. I’ve asked everyone around us, but no one has seen him. But he’s a survivor,” she said.
Without this microchip, Sam would never have seen his mother again.
“I’ve been telling everyone all day. Whatever, get your pet microchipped,” she said. “Because you never know, eleven years!”
Thank you to the Charleston Animal Society and Jennifer Ravenel for letting us share in the joy!

Miraculous microchip reunion for Sam Sam
It’s not clear how Sam Sam the Cat Man (his name is so much fun to say) lasted out there for 11 years. Almost certainly someone took him in. The life of a stray, spoiled house cat on the streets is extremely dangerous. If only Sam’s former owners had checked him for a microchip, then perhaps this reunion would have happened much sooner. It’s a good reminder to get a stray cat scanned before you consider adopting.
But eventually Sam found his way home to pick up where he left off.
“The miraculous reunion was only possible because Sam’s owner had a microchip implanted in him. Please implant a microchip in your pets because it can help you find your lost pet!”
“Ask your veterinarian if your pet’s microchip is up to date. Every animal at Charleston Animal Society is microchipped before adoption – just one of the ways we keep families together!”

A free way to search for lost and found pets
The Charleston Animal Society celebrates its 150th anniversary 150th anniversary. They are in top form, shocking national adoption records with the “Pick Me! SC” event in partnership with Petco Love. After sharing the amazing reunion of Sam Sam the Cat Man, they showed a free and easy way to search for lost and found pets.
“If you have lost a pet or found an animal, please contact Petco Love Lost, a free and easy way to locate and help return over 200,000 lost and found pets home.”
Unfortunately, the chances of a pet getting lost are very high, even if you try your best to keep them indoors, so getting a microchip and keeping the information up to date is simply a must. Often you will need to clear this part with the manufacturer of the microchip, so be sure to ask your vet about the procedure.
“One in three pets will go missing during their lifetime. We hope your pet isn’t one of them, but if it is, Petco Love Lost is here to help.”
