MASON, Ohio – The Cincinnati Open, formerly the Western & Southern Open, struggled with numerous weather-related delays before the weekend’s quarterfinal matches began Saturday.

The field of participants has been reduced and some high-ranking players as well as some outsiders are all aiming to win the Rookwood Cup.

In a tournament full of surprises, both world number ones are still in the running and will be in action on Saturday. WTA number 1 Iga Swiatek has shone in two matches so far and will face Mirra Andreeva for a place in the semifinals. ATP number 1 Jannik Sinner had Friday off after a walkover win and will face number 6 seed Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

There will be newcomers who advance to Sunday, as 10 of the 16 remaining players have never made it to the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open.
