CAIRO – August 17, 2024: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called for all international efforts in the ongoing negotiations to be combined to reach an agreement that will end the bloodshed and prevent military escalation in the region, Egyptian presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said in a press release.

During his meeting with French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné and the accompanying delegation on Saturday at the Presidential Palace in Cairo, President Sisi reiterated that the continuation of the war in the Gaza Strip is dragging the region into a vicious circle of instability.

President Sisi added that it is the responsibility of the international community to use its influence to contain the escalation and address the roots of the conflict by establishing a Palestinian state and implementing a two-state solution.

For his part, Stéphane Séjourné agreed with President Sisi on the importance of establishing a Palestinian state and implementing the two-state solution. The French minister stressed his country’s full support for Egypt’s de-escalation efforts and praised the important role played by Egypt in mediating jointly with Qatar and the United States to reach an agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza and a hostage exchange.

The French Minister conveyed to President Sisi the greetings of French President Emmanuel Macron and pointed out that President Macron had instructed him to carry out a regional trip to contribute to the efforts to detente and calm the situation.

The official spokesman added that the meeting also aimed to reaffirm the strength and solidity of the Egyptian-French strategic partnership and to work together to develop and deepen the framework for bilateral cooperation in various fields to meet the interests of both peoples.
