OAKLAND – Authorities announced an arrest Friday in connection with a shooting earlier this month in Oakland that left a father of two injured as he slept in his home.
The suspect – a 20-year-old Oakland man – was arrested in Richmond on Monday, the Oakland Housing Authority Police Department said in a news release.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged the man with multiple crimes, including illegal use of a weapon and possession of a machine gun. He is being held without bail in the Santa Rita Jail.
The shooting occurred on August 1 in the 1900 block of East 19th Street, not far from San Antonio Park, according to police. The victim, identified by family and authorities as 33-year-old Run Hua Kuang, survived but is still in the hospital.
“During this difficult time, the Oakland Housing Authority remains in contact with the victim’s family and offers support and services,” police said.
According to a post on an online fundraising page set up for Kuang, he had just returned home from his job as a delivery truck driver and was taking a nap when a bullet pierced a wall and hit him in the head.
“His life was based on discipline and dedication as a husband, father and son,” the donation states. “This shocking incident has traumatized the entire family and left them in deep despair.”
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the case can contact police at 510-535-3100 or the anonymous tip line at 510-535-3155.
