If the life of Meghan Markle – an American actress who marries the sixth heir to the British throne – seems like a fairytale, take a look at the life of her rescue dog.
Meghan’s dog, Guy, is a 17-pound beagle, a rescue dog from Kentucky.
Meghan, now the Duchess of Sussex, brought Guy with her when she moved from Toronto to her new home at Kensington Palace, where she and her new husband Prince Harry live.
Guy now lives a royal life.
A photo sparked speculation that he had been riding in the car with none other than Queen Elizabeth before Harry and Meghan’s wedding on Saturday at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.
Queen Elizabeth, who is known for surrounding herself with her beloved corgis, was photographed taking a car ride with a dog in the passenger seat. The photo sparked a debate about whether it could be Guy. Social media even discussed the size of the dog’s ears to determine if it was actually Guy.
When Harry and Meghan’s engagement was announced in November, Harry recounted how Queen Elizabeth’s beloved corgis had taken an instant liking to Meghan over a cup of tea.
“The corgis took an instant liking to you,” Harry, 33, said of Meghan, 36.
“I’ve been barked at for the last 33 years; when this one came in, nothing happened,” Harry said, adding that they “just wagged their tails and I was like, ‘Argh.'”
Meghan added that the dogs “just lay on my feet during tea. It was very sweet.”
Meghan’s dog Guy apparently attracted attention on the couple’s wedding day. A British newspaper reported that the dog stole the show at the couple’s wedding reception by running around everywhere and eating all the leftover food.
