Habitat “WALL BUILD” next week at Nissan

Habitat “WALL BUILD” next week at Nissan

Smyrna, TN – Next Friday (8/23) from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., over 100 Nissan and community volunteers will build the walls for Habitat for Humanity’s 200th home in Rutherford County. Miraculously, this event will take place in just 5 hours at Nissan’s Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant.

Once the walls are complete, they will be erected to create a temporary home in the Nissan parking lot. The public is welcome to attend this exciting event!

The walls will then be transported to Habitat’s Legacy Pointe development in Murfreesboro, where the entire home will be built for future homeowner Chanelle, a single mother of three who works in administration at a mental health facility.

Chanelle and her family members will work hand in hand with Nissan volunteers to build the panels. They will tour the house with her and see where her family will live. They will also sign the walls with words of encouragement and good wishes for Chanelle and her family.

Completion of the 200th Habitat home is scheduled for the end of November.

Habitat will hold a special event to mark the dedication and ribbon cutting during the holidays. It is also celebrating the local Habitat’s 35th anniversary. It was founded in Rutherford County in August 1989 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Since then, the affiliate has built 200 homes in Rutherford County, including in LaVergne, Smyrna and Murfreesboro.

In 2019, Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity began developing an 18-acre affordable housing development called Legacy Pointe. Since then, Habitat has built 34 homes in the unique development. When completed, the development will include 76 homes.

Like many Habitat-bound homeowners, Chanelle has struggled to find affordable housing over the years, often working two or three jobs to make ends meet. Rent prices in Rutherford County have skyrocketed, leaving many residents to spend 50 percent or more of their monthly income on housing alone, leaving little money for other family needs.

Members of the Habitat for Humanity Rutherford County team will be on the WGNS Action Line to share more about the WALL BUILD that will take place that day. The broadcast will take place next Thursday, August 22, 2023 from 8:10 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
