Several interns and doctors involved in crimes, parents tell CBI

Calcutta: In a major development in the Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder case, the victim’s parents have told the CBI that several interns and doctors at the hospital may be involved in the crime.

The parents also provided the names of persons they suspect of being involved in the murder of their daughter at the government hospital to the Central agency investigating the case on the orders of the Calcutta High Court,” PTI reported, quoting an official.

“The parents told us that they suspect the involvement of several people in the sexual assault and murder of their daughter. They have given the names of some interns and doctors who worked with her in the hospital,” the CBI official said. The agency is primarily questioning these people and officials of the Kolkata Police who were involved in the initial investigation. “We have identified at least 30 suspects and started questioning them,” the official added.

On Friday, the CBI summoned a hospital employee and two interns who were on duty with the doctor on the night of her murder. The agency also accompanied former hospital director Dr Sandip Ghosh for questioning. Dr Ghosh, who resigned two days after the body was discovered, had expressed fear of an attack, prompting his lawyer to seek protection from the Calcutta High Court. The court directed him to approach a single court.

As part of their investigation, the CBI officials also took the arrested accused to reconstruct the crime scene, he said, adding that 3D tracking was also done in the seminar room of the hospital. The body of the postgraduate intern was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The next day, the police arrested a volunteer in this connection. (With agency sources)
