“You can’t tell if he’s retired or not”: Boxing insider lashes out at PBC over boxers Leo Santa Cruz and Danny Garcia, who “haven’t fought in 2.5 years”

Controversial boxing insider Rick Glaser has once again set itself the goal of Al Haymons promotional company Premier Boxing Champions (PBC). This time, his criticism focuses on fighters in Haymon’s stable who remain active but have not fought in years. The latest chapter in Glaser’s PBC revelation saga concerns two boxers, Leo Santa Cruz And Danny Garcia, which are not “fought in 2.5 years”. Is there something wrong that is preventing them from arguing more often?

Rick Glaser sharply criticized PBC and told X: Leo Santa Cruz turns 36 today, has only fought twice in the 2020s and has not fought for 2.5 years. It is impossible to say whether he is retired or not, why, because most #PBC the fighters are just as inactive as Danny Garcia, who hasn’t fought in 2.5 years. They just got him off the couch for a fight on September 14th. And most people thought Danny was retired!”

Is Leo Santa Cruz’s career over? React!

Cruz has not been very active since his loss to the WBA lightweight world champion Gervonta Davis in December 2020. The former bantamweight champion returned two years later, in 2022, to fight Keenan Carbajal at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, which he won by unanimous decision. Since then, there has been a deafening silence from Cruz, with no fights scheduled. Interestingly, the 36-year-old fighter has not even decided to quit, despite being out of the ring for so long.

Following a similar pattern, former welterweight champion Danny Garcia did not get a fight for two years after his loss to former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. in December 2020. In July 2022 he returned to the ring to fight Jose Benavidez Jr.which he won by majority decision. After a break of more than two years, he is finally set to fight against the current WBA middleweight world champion Lara Erislandy on the undercard of Canelo Alvarezupcoming fight against Edgar Berlanga. It is noteworthy that the American boxer is also 36 years old and shows no signs of wanting to end his career.

However, Glaser does not provide any explanation as to why such a pattern is evident in most PBC fighters who fight only infrequently, such as the Charlo brothers and Jose Benavidez Jr., to name a few. “This is the PBC method,” He wrote on X and criticized the PBC for the way it handles the careers of its fighters.

However, this is not the first time that Al Haymon and PBC have been heavily criticized by Rick Glaser. Not long ago, he also pointed out the promises that Haymon’s PBC may not keep.

Not long ago, the PBC signed a multi-year deal with Amazon Prime to broadcast boxing matches following the sudden shutdown of Showtime Boxing at the end of 2023. Among the assurances the advertising company made to the public was the promise of non-PPV fights on Amazon Prime. But Glaser reached out to X to inform boxing fans that this particular commitment may be in jeopardy as the PBC “short on cash”, and was looking for a “new investor with deep pockets” to finance their costly venture.

“That’s what PBC was all about. Remember PBC’s slogan: ‘Freeeee Boxing’. Well, in reality, it’s PPV for everything,” Glaser wrote on X. It must be pointed out that the last doubleheader boxing event with Gervonta Davis And David Benavidez on June 15th was also a PPV fight. It remains to be seen if PBC can find the new investors they want to remove the pay-per-view price tag from their fights in the future.
