“At least I have created awareness”

“At least I have created awareness”

Veteran Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff often makes waves with his dialogues and one-liners. One of these iconic lines appeared in the 1998 viral polio ad that the actor starred in. Reacting to it years later, Jackie explained that while it was not his intention to be offensive, he was glad that he was at least able to grab attention.

In the 1998 polio ad, Jackie was seen uttering the Marathi swear word “Maushi chi…” while explaining the importance of childhood vaccination. Although the ad is now over two decades old, it is still popular on social media and has now become a meme template among the youth.

Reacting to the ad, Jackie told Ranveer Allahbadia that he found some words in the ad really difficult to pronounce and that’s where he made the faux pas. “I tried hard to say the lines but some words are difficult to pronounce. That’s what happened that day. But later we made another ad which turned out really good and effective,” he said.

He added that he has been saying this phrase since he was young and uses it whenever he is frustrated. “Some people like it, some don’t… If nothing, then at least I have managed to raise people’s awareness. It has helped people learn about polio and the importance of getting their children vaccinated,” he said.

Jackie Shroff’s upcoming projects

On the professional front, Jackie will next be seen in a key role in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Singham Again’, which also stars Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tiger Shroff and Arjun Kapoor.

A few days ago, photos from the sets of the film were circulated online, showing Ajay’s character Singham arresting Jackie in the valleys of Kashmir.

Jackie will also be seen in Atlee’s Baby John, starring Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh.
