One question has been on everyone’s lips since Donald Trump announced JD Vance as his vice presidential nominee. (No, not the question about Vance’s alleged NSFW relationship with home furniture, although plenty of people have wondered that too.) Many people have wondered if Vance wears eye makeup, and a professional makeup artist told The List that it’s possible. Vance’s light blue eyes are very striking, and Los Angeles-based hair and makeup artist Luna Viola said, “Many celebrities are known to use concealer to brighten the eye area and dark brown eyeliner on the lower eyelid to highlight their eye color.”

Viola also pointed out that some people have naturally dark eyelashes, which may be the case for Vance. “This can create the optical illusion of black eyeliner, especially when contrasted with blue eyes,” Viola continued. “The natural contrast can make the eyelashes appear even darker than they are.”
We at The List wanted to know what Vance would look like if he had lighter lashes—or if he would one day forgo eyeliner if his look wasn’t completely natural. With a little photo editing, we brought our vision to life.

They definitely don’t look as sharp without JD Vance’s signature look around the eyes. It doesn’t change JD’s look too drastically though, unlike when we wanted to see HGTV’s David Bromstad without tattoos and his look was completely changed.

In August 2024, JD’s wife Usha Vance answered a question about whether eye makeup is incorporated into his look. Her representative gave a statement to Puck News, which was also shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. Usha’s statement read, “They are all natural. I was always jealous of those lashes.” However, commenters on the tweet felt that Usha’s statement confirmed that JD was not wearing mascara, but said nothing specific about whether or not he wears eyeliner.
Until JD posts a “Get Ready With Me” video online and shares his morning routine step by step, netizens will probably still be wondering whether or not he uses makeup. The vice presidential candidate may want to try out such a video to appeal to the general public, as he has been criticized for “stalking” Kamala Harris and living up to his weird reputation.
