“Dream Novel” opens Oldenburg Film Festival 2024

Dream novellaa new adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s famous erotic short story, which inspired Stanley Kubrick to his Eyes wide closedwill open this year’s Oldenburg Film Festival and premiere on September 11th.

The drama by German director Florian Frerichs (The Last Supper), in which Nikolai Kinski and Laurine Price play a respectable upper-middle-class couple who are drawn into a secret world of erotic fantasy. The other main roles are played by Detlev Buck, Bruno Eyron and Nora Islei, and Sharon Brauner and Sharon Kovacs also make guest appearances. Producers are Warnuts Entertainment and Studio Babelsberg.

Schnitzler’s original 1926 publication Dream novella The most famous adaptation was Kubrick’s 1999 feature film, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Production took a record-breaking 400 days. Kubrick died shortly after the film was completed and only six days after screening his cut for Kidman and Cruise.

Frerichs and his cast will be at the Dream novella World premiere in Oldenburg on September 11th. The film will be released in German cinemas in early 2025 with the kind permission of Apollo Film.

The Oldenburg Festival is Germany’s leading independent film festival and is known for its provocative, offbeat or otherwise non-mainstream films. The 31st Oldenburg Film Festival will take place from September 11th to 19th.
