Can you prevent store closings in Idaho?

Can you prevent store closings in Idaho?

In case you haven’t heard, Golden Corral in Magic Valley has closed. While it’s sad to see a beloved restaurant close, one of the bigger stories was how it closed. According to employees, there was no announcement because when they arrived they realized they had lost their jobs. Not only were employees surprised, but so were customers, many of whom had gift cards and coupons and regularly ate at the restaurant. Many are stunned and trying to figure out what happened and what could have been done differently. While the restaurant will be missed, could it have been saved if local residents had a say and prevented the closure? Too many places have closed in recent years, and should there be a law that allows local residents to save certain restaurants, stores and businesses if someone is willing to invest in them, or that prevents them from suddenly closing?

Businesses and establishments have the right to close at any time. Owners can lay people off, close their doors, and run their businesses however they want, but should there be a few more policies to level the playing field? The closure of Golden Corral has left many frustrated because they didn’t have a last chance to use their discounts. and it left Employees looking for a job for a small price. Similar to Most places expect a notice period of two weeks if an employee decides to leave look for another job, quit or leave for any reason, companies should have to do the same, especially large chains. It gives employees time to find a job and it gives Customers the opportunity to stop by one last time.

When Golden Carrol closed, rumors immediately began to swirl that In-N-Out or Raising Canes would buy the site. Twin Falls has seen a number of places bought up and converted from one restaurant, store or business to another in recent years, but shouldn’t residents be able to vote on it? Perhaps the community would rather have Golden Corral instead of In-N-Out or Raising Canes. Too many places are leaving town and being replaced by new ones, but if the community wants the former more, shouldn’t they have that choice? Unfortunately, that’s not how business works, but it should happen and give residents a voice to decide what is and isn’t available in the Magic Valley.

No matter what we want or don’t want, these restaurants, stores and businesses will continue to do what they want and not care about their employees, their customers or the communities they leave behind. Unfortunately, they care more about money than the happiness of the people they once employed and served. If a voting system could be implemented to give residents more power, it could make Twin Falls better and happier in the future and prevent places from doing what Golden Corral did and closing in the middle of the night with no notice.
