Akufo-Addo told me that I would have to be held accountable for my actions after my term in office.

Akufo-Addo told me that I would have to be held accountable for my actions after my term in office.

Sammi Awuku, Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), said President Nana Akufo-Addo gave him valuable advice upon his appointment.

According to him, the President warned him to be cautious in his conduct and pointed out that if he resigned, he would be held accountable for his work.

In an interview on JoyNews personality profile, Sammi Awuku said President Akufo-Addo told him he had a great opportunity to make the people and himself proud of the office.

“The president’s marching orders were absolutely clear.

“This is a big stage and I know you can do it. But he also said, remember, this is a public office and one day there will be accountability. When I left the presidency, those words resonated,” he said in a report by adomonline.com.

The former national organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stated that he had no knowledge of the lottery sector before his appointment.

Sammi Awuku comes from a political background and he realised that he would not be able to do anything with the job if he took it on with a political mindset.

“When the president sent me there, I knew nothing about this room. I knew nothing. It took me about 10 days to really read about the NLA, the reviews and all that.

“I sat down and had to profile the NLA from afar. I had to learn what they were doing and I came from a very political background. I was a national organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party and I knew that if I went there with a political mindset it would not work,” he said.
