Miguel Oliveira has confirmed that he is in “very positive negotiations” with Yamaha to ride for the Pramac MotoGP team in 2025.
It was officially confirmed that the five-time MotoGP race winner will leave Trackhouse Aprilia at the end of the year, as the team announced on Thursday ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix that it had signed Ai Ogura from Moto2 for 2025.
Oliveira had long considered taking up the option to ride for Yamaha at Pramac next year and confirmed that talks were ongoing.
“Now, looking to the future, we are in very positive negotiations with Yamaha regarding the Pramac seat,” he told motogp.com on Thursday.
“Hopefully we can discuss this option in more detail in the near future, probably in a few weeks.”
Oliveira says the Pramac option is “very attractive” as Yamaha takes steps to improve its bike for the future.
A key element of this is securing Pramac as a factory-supported satellite team, as the Japanese brand has only fielded two bikes in the last two seasons.
“I mean, it’s very attractive because the way Yamaha looks to the future will pay off soon,” he added.
“They have a really strong group of riders. In the factory team they have Alex Rins and Fabio Quartararo and I think the main thing they are missing is a really good satellite team with more data, more information and bikes with the same specification to be able to bring the project to the desired result faster.
“Hopefully that will happen and hopefully I will be on board and see good things coming our way.”
Oliveira is expected to be joined by Jack Miller, who was given a lifeline by Pramac after it looked like he had no future in MotoGP before the summer break.
Miller confirmed he had held talks about remaining on the MotoGP grid, with Yamaha reportedly opting to hire an experienced duo at Pramac to speed up the development of its M1.
Yamaha has already given 2021 world champion Quartararo and his teammate Rins new two-year factory contracts until the end of 2026.
