APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two colleges in northeast Wisconsin are partnering to create a new transfer opportunity for students.

The program was developed by Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton and Marian University in Fond du Lac.

This allows students to complete the first two years of their general education courses at FVTC and earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree, and then transfer all earned credits to MU to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the third year of study.

The leaders of both schools met at FVTC on Thursday to sign the agreement formalizing the college transfer program.

Officials say there is already a “rich tradition” of FVTC students transferring to MU to complete their studies in in-demand careers such as nursing, education, social work and criminal justice.

“Students can come in and say, ‘Hey, I’m going to be a nurse, but I know I can go to Fox Valley Tech, I know I can take the core courses here for the first two years, maybe live at home and save some money, but I still already know what the future is going to look like, and I’m going to be a Marian Sabre and I’m going to graduate from there,'” said Aaron Sadoff, president of Marian University.

It makes a lot of sense from a financial perspective. But I’ve also learned in my short time as president of Marian: the more we work together, the better off we’ll be.

The program begins at the beginning of the FVTC’s fall 2024 semester.

“With over 200 FVTC students enrolled in the AA/AS university transfer program for the fall 2024 semester, this new partnership provides FVTC students with more value, opportunities and mobility to continue their academic endeavors at Marian University,” a press release said.

FVTC serves over 45,000 students annually, more than any other technical college in Wisconsin.
