Ryan Tedder tells Mimi Webb to abandon songs if they ‘take too long’ to write

Ryan Tedder advised Mimi Webb to discard songs if it “takes too long” to understand them.

The “Erase You” singer collaborated with the OneRepublic frontman on her latest single, and they are working together on her upcoming sophomore album, the follow-up to her 2022 debut, “Amelia.”

Speaking about the advice he gave her in the studio, she told NME: “He always says if the song takes too long to come along, it’s just not the right one.”

“It’s very important to him that the song just comes when it feels like it’s the right song.”

The 24-year-old singer loves working with Ryan and has long been a “big fan” of the group “Counting Stars”.

She said: “I’ve been a huge fan of OneRepublic for as long as I can remember. I honestly love everything.

“When I’m in the studio with Ryan and he’s singing, I try to imitate the little things he does and we laugh…

“He’s just an incredible singer and that was a big reason why I wanted to get in the studio with him. Once we started writing some really cool songs, everything just flowed so well.”

Looking ahead, Mimi revealed that her second album will give her “access to and immerse herself in different things that have happened in my life.”

While “Amelia” is “the best version” of herself as a person, the next project will focus on “mixed emotions and the ups and downs” of life.

She explained: “It’s also about change in general. Nothing ever stays the same. Really. And I think I’ve really learned that lesson in life.”

“It was so nice to look at my last album and then look at this album and be able to say, ‘Change is good, and it’s about change.’ I feel like this album definitely represents that.”
