Acura has unveiled the new Integra Type S HRC prototype at Monterey Car Week, showcasing a possible line of high-performance parts from Honda Racing Corporation for use on the street and track. As we can see, the prototype builds on the capabilities of the high-performance Integra Type S, with the HRC showing that there is still plenty of room for improvement.

The automaker has worked to improve the performance and responsiveness of the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with dual oil coolers, a larger intercooler and a lightweight cat-back exhaust, all developed exclusively for the Integra Type S HRC TCX race car.

Driving characteristics like a racing car

That’s where the “under the hood” improvements end, but there are plenty of handling improvements that help the Integra Type S handle better. First, the rear bulkhead has been reinforced with an X-brace that stiffens the chassis and improves handling. The suspension has been lowered by 0.59 inches and includes adjustable front/rear camber plates and an adjustable rear anti-roll bar. Coilover shocks are also part of the package and the overall suspension system is similar to that of the HRC TCX race car.

19-inch wheels with 265/30 Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R high-performance tires help the prototype to grip the road. Interestingly, the wheels have a negative offset that widens the track by 1.18 inches at the front and rear. Not only does this look sporty and athletic, but it also improves handling, according to Acura. Stopping power is provided by 15-inch front rotors with Brembo six-piston calipers. The rear axle gets two-piece rear rotors that further reduce unsprung weight.

“HRC Performance Parts is an exciting concept that aims to build a stronger connection with Acura and Honda fans who rely on exclusive HRC racing technology to enhance their driving experience. Every specification on the Acura Integra Type S HRC prototype screams performance. Everything is functional – if it doesn’t help improve performance, it’s not on the car.”

– Jon Ikeda, Senior Vice President, Honda Racing Corporation USA

Aggressive aerodynamic kit looks great and improves performance

The “regular” Integra Type S already has remarkable performance, but the HRC prototype should be even better. In addition to the driving improvements, the Acura prototype gets a carbon fiber hood, rear door panels and one-piece Recaro bucket seats. It’s admittedly not as practical as a standard Type S, as the rear seats have been replaced with a carbon fiber tray that provides space for four wheels and tires. Combined with the optional elimination of air conditioning, the Integra Type S is nearly 200 pounds lighter than its road-going counterpart.

Acura Integra Type S (2024): Same engine as the Civic Type R, but with more power

The Acura Integra Type 2024 takes the engine from the Honda Civic Type R, but increases the power to 320 hp.

In addition to the mechanical upgrades, Acura has also upgraded the Type S HRC’s design with aerodynamic improvements. At the front, you’ll find a distinctive front splitter with cooling ducts, enlarged hood openings, side skirts, and an adjustable carbon fiber rear wing. To top it all off, the prototype was painted in a beautiful shade called Indy Yellow Pearl, first seen on the second-generation NSX.

Hopefully it goes into production

There are also aluminum HRC badges on the grille, tailgate, and front fenders – in case anyone mistakes it for a smaller Integra. With any luck, Acura will put this incredible prototype into production – albeit only in a limited run. At the very least, we’d like to see these parts offered as upgrades to the standard Type S. If that’s the case, hopefully these upgrades can be applied to the Civic Type R as well.
