Fans tell Wynne Evans to ‘stop criticising yourself’ as he speaks out on Strictly Prep

Welsh opera singer and radio presenter Wynne Evans is preparing hard for his appearance on Strictly Come Dancing 2024. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that the 52-year-old is one of the 15 celebrities taking part in the show, alongside Shayne Ward, Toyah Wilcox and Sam Quek.

MasterChef winner Wynne, originally from Carmarthen, appears to be taking the competition very seriously already. In a video on Instagram, he revealed that he has started training – but his fans urged him not to “judge himself so much”.

“I’m trying to build up my stamina for Strictly, running like I always do,” he said. “I thought I was going to have a heart attack. It was boiling hot today. Did a Susie Chan class. Legendary. Susie, this is what a fat man looks like doing one of your classes.”

In response, long-distance runner Susie replied: “You look like an 11/10 to me!” Meanwhile, several other “Go Compare Man” wished Wynne all the best for the dance show, which is set to launch on BBC One in the autumn. One person wrote: “You can do it – make that the next trophy on the shelf,” while someone else commented: “Good luck… Wynne… you’re going to be amazing.” Another person wrote: “Stop criticising yourself… you’re doing amazing.”

The 2024 season of Strictly Come Dancing has been marred by a series of scandals. The series has been plagued by allegations of misconduct, bullying and behind-the-scenes turmoil. At the centre of the storm is professional dancer Giovanni Pernice, who was unexpectedly axed from the 2024 programme. Following allegations of “abusive or threatening behaviour” by his dance partner Amanda Abbington, a BBC investigation was launched, leading to his exclusion from the show.

The scandal was compounded by the fact that another professional dancer, Graziano Di Prima, was forced to leave the show following allegations that he had mistreated his celebrity partner Zara McDermott during the previous season.
