Seattle Mariners video analysis: How much trouble are the M’s in?

Seattle Mariners video analysis: How much trouble are the M’s in?

The Seattle Mariners were on a tear after their win over the New York Mets last weekend, but now they’re on a tear after being beaten in three games by the Detroit Tigers at the start of a three-city road trip.

Robles can earn up to $22.25 million in his new contract with the Mariners

The Mariners have lost every game in Detroit in particularly demoralizing fashion. On Tuesday, Detroit beat the M’s 15-1. On Wednesday, Seattle couldn’t hold on to a two-run lead and lost 3-2 in overtime. And on Thursday, it was another blown save, as a two-run home run by the Tigers in the eighth inning gave them a 2-1 victory.

Seattle has had excellent starting pitchers in its last two wins, with Bryan Woo and Bryce Miller each throwing seven scoreless innings. But the constant in the series has been a lack of offense, especially on Thursday when the Mariners managed just one hit.

Following Thursday’s loss, we caught up with Seattle Sports’ Bob Stelton for another installment of his video series on the Mariners (see the top of this post). This week, he responds:

• What went wrong in Detroit.

• Why the Mariners can play well against good teams like the Mets and Phillies, but struggle against others that are under .500.

• It is the right decision whether Julio Rodríguez plays or not despite his ankle sprain.

• If the M’s have a problem, it’s that the AL West-leading Houston Astros have won eight in a row.

For more information, join Stelton weekdays at 2 p.m. on Seattle Sports’ “Wyman and Bob.”
