QB Schager is placed on the preseason watch list for the fifth time

The University of Hawaii Mānoa quarterback Brayden Schager is the recipient of two preseason awards – the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Manning Award – making his fifth preseason watch list appearance.

The Golden Arm Award is presented each year to the best quarterback in the senior class or senior year of his or her class. The list of nominees was compiled by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers and former players.

The Manning Award, created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl to honor the college football successes of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning, is the only award whose voting takes into account the candidates’ postseason performance. Schager was one of 29 quarterbacks on the list. Notably, each of the Manning Award winners was later selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Last season, Schager led the Mountain West with 3,542 yards, 26 touchdown passes and 168 points and was responsible for NO.2 in total offense (277.3 ypg). He completed 63.2% of his attempts (332 of 525) and received honorable mention All-Mountain West.

Schager is also on the Maxwell Award watch list, AFCA Good Works Team and Dice Trophy.
