New England Patriots fans come to preseason to catch a glimpse of Drake Maye

FOXBORO – Not even the pouring rain and threatening clouds could destroy the Patriots’ beloved tailgating tradition in front of Gillette Stadium.

Not everyone is a Patriots fan…

“No, we don’t care,” said Pats fan Paul Debreceni. “It’s preseason. We’re having fun here, that’s what it’s about.”

In the second preseason game against the Philly Eagles, the cornhole moves were still landing and the footballs were still flying.

Even though some young fans cheer for opposing teams, their friendship remains.

“But I’ve always been a Pats fan. I live in New England, so I’ll never change that,” said fan Andrew Lake.

As the situation became more and more tense, a father and his daughter found themselves on opposite sides on match day.

“It’s tough sometimes to wear the away jersey, though. She’s taken it down here a few times,” Patriots fan Shannon Fenton said of his daughter.

“I know. It’s definitely intimidating,” added Eagles fan and daughter Leah Fenton. “But I think it would definitely be scarier wearing a Pats jersey in Philly.”

Patriots fans have their eye on Drake Maye

Some Foxboro fans were at Gillette Stadium to watch the new talent – quarterback Drake May – and see how he plays when it matters.

“I’m excited to see Drake play today. I heard he’s playing a little more today, so I’m a little excited about that,” Patriots fan Brady Gaulim said. “You know, Belichick is gone, so I’m excited to see what Mayo can do and how he can turn the offense around and turn the team around.”

No matter how high the expectations, fans are ready for a new era at Gillette.

“We’re staying here, you know; we’re still here,” said Patriots fan Aidan Fitzgerald. “I’ll always be here for the Pats, my favorite team in the whole world. I love the Pats. I love New England. I love everything about it.”
