In less than a month, the Southborough, Northborough and Shrewsbury Rec Connect program will host a “Sneaker Prom” for teens with disabilities and their families.
Earlier this year, I announced news about the program partnership between the recreation departments of the three cities:
It is designed for participants with disabilities and their families and friends to come together, build meaningful relationships while enjoying recreational opportunities, leisure activities, events and community outings.
Registration for most Rec Connect programs is done through the Shrewsbury website. (This means you need to create a profile on your system.) All programs are also listed on the Southborough Rec website.
The Prom is for ages 13 and older ($10 per person) and their adult parent/guardian ($5 per person) and will be held on Saturday, September 7th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Shrewsbury Senior Center.

Lace up your sneakers folks, Rec Connect sees you on the dance floor! Our DJ will be spinning the hits so you can dance the night away. Come join us for dinner, dancing, games and crafts. . .
Family members are welcome.
Participants can also “enter into our raffle to win a pair of custom-designed Converse sneakers.”

Monthly trips (16 years and older, participants and friends welcome.):
- September: Apple picking at Tougas Farm, Northborough
- October: Gulbankian’s Terrarium Class, October 9, 6:00-7:30 p.m., Southborough Senior Center
- November: Dinner and a Movie, Shrewsbury Senior Center
- December: College basketball game
