It is time to recognize those residents who put a lot of effort into creating beautiful properties.

Nominations for the quarterly Anaheim Beautiful real estate awards are open until midnight on August 18.

Nominate yourself or submit an outstanding property to be recognized. Anaheim Beautiful recognizes those residents who go the extra mile to make the city beautiful.

Busy month at the Muzeo

The Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center is hosting numerous events this month.

Don’t miss a talk on Victorian fashion on August 17th from 1pm to 3pm in the Main Gallery or the Open Book event on August 18th from 2pm to 3pm where you can share experiences in the book writing industry.

A summer concert featuring Sean Oliu and free arts and crafts for children will take place on August 30th at Carnegie Plaza from 6-8pm. In addition, the exhibitions Makers@MUZEO featuring Mahtab Mohammadi and “Rubber Menagerie: The Squeaky Toys of Edward Mobley” will remain on view through October 27th.

And “Yoga in the Gallery” takes place again on Saturdays at 10 a.m. in the Muzeo.

Use wellness resources

A community healthcare trade show is coming to Anaheim.

There are educational materials, raffle prizes, free health screenings, Zumba sessions, and even a free haircut and food (first come, first served).

The fair will be held on August 29 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Downtown Community Center, 250 E. Center St. Contact Kamelle Lising at 949-466-8633 or [email protected].

Wings of Hope Mindfulness Fair

A Wings of Hope Mental Wellness Resource Fair will be held on September 7th.

It will be held in front of the amphitheater in Pearson Park. There will be mindfulness activities including painting, yoga, sound healing, food, giveaways and more. Bring family and friends for mindful health resources for all.

Fancy cooling off?

Just in time for the hot summer days, Pearson Park swimming pool offers free public swimming sessions.

Public swim sessions are Fridays from 2:30pm to 4pm and weekends from 1:30pm to 4pm. Presented by Disneyland Resort.

Dinner show with RHYTHMO

RHYTHMO Inc. presents an “En El Corazon” dinner show.

Mark your calendars for September 8th for a celebration with a dinner show, fundraiser and silent auction to benefit RHYTHMO. Performers include Trio Manzo, Mariachi Puno de Oro, Rhythmo Mariachi Kids and Ballet Folkloríco Flor de Mayo.

RHYTHMO is dedicated to providing music and cultural experiences for all ages and especially the youth of Orange County. The group was founded by Gabriel Zavala and his sons Oliver and Gabriel Jr. continue the mission with their mother Oralia. Contact Gabriel about the event and how you can support their efforts.

Anaheim Libraries Celebrate Chicano Heritage Month

The Anaheim Public Library System presents events as part of its Chicano Heritage Month celebration.

On August 24th at 2pm the Nahua Storytime and Dancers will perform at Sunkist Branch.

A live performance of Sin Color will take place on August 31st from 3-4pm in the Central Library’s newly remodeled basement multipurpose room. Classically trained opera and mariachi voices will perform and the event is intended for all ages.

Find (or sell) some treasures

The Ebell Club of Anaheim is hosting a flea market featuring vintage finds on September 7th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is a brand new event offered by the Ebell Club at their clubhouse located at 226 N. Helena St. Find some treasures to buy or rent a spot for $35 and sell your own treasures.

Children can learn programming

The Anaheim Public Library is offering a computer lab for kids on August 22 at the Anaheim Central Library.

Aimed at children in first through fifth grade, this workshop teaches them the fundamentals of programming through block-based coding with Sphero robots. The workshop is presented by the nonprofit Dreams for Shools and a Helping Hands grant from the Anaheim Community Foundation.

The workshop will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Children’s Computer Lab at the Central Library, 500 W Broadway in Anaheim. For more information, call 714-765-1880. Registration is free. Equipment will be provided.

Take part in a Disney Half Marathon with a team

It’s not too early to sign up for a spot in the Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon in September.

Join Anaheim Community Foundation’s Team Helping Hands and run to support grants to local nonprofits providing critical services in mental health, food insecurity, literacy, college prep and more.

Get a tree and give it more shade

Treepower is once again providing the residents of Anaheim with a free fruit tree.

The Anaheim program offers over 40 species of shade trees, including drought-resistant and fire-resistant varieties that will help you reduce your air conditioning use and lower your electric bill.

For a limited time, you can get a 5-gallon fruit tree to shade your home with your choice of shade trees. New varieties are available including apples, avocado, pomegranates and more. Supplies are limited.
