Scanavino: The new Juventus would rather ‘create’ the next Ronaldo than buy him

When asked about the club’s recent recruitment strategy, Juventus CEO Maurizio Scanavino stressed that the Old Lady would rather create the next Cristiano Ronaldo than have to buy him.

The Bianconeri manager gave a detailed interview to Tuttosport, which was published on Thursday.

Scanavino told the Turin-based media that Juventus is focused on signing young, promising and up-and-coming football players who have not yet reached their full potential at a high level.

As the club looks to rejuvenate its squad, Scanavino remains adamant that the club must remain competitive at the highest level.

He does not rule out that Juventus could sign the world’s next superstar, although that would likely happen earlier in his career rather than in the middle or late stages, as was the case when the club brought Ronaldo to the Allianz Stadium from Real Madrid in 2018.

“If we look at Ronaldo as an example of a top player, then I absolutely do not rule out that a top player could come along at some point. Of course, we also want to be able to produce such players ourselves, focusing on young and talented players who have not yet reached their full potential,” Scanavino told Tuttosport.

“But as I said, sustainability must not affect competitiveness. Juventus has significant resources and therefore, in terms of economic investment in the first team, we cannot rule out the possibility of a top player joining.

“In fact, I would say there will be one.”

Juventus have signed four permanent players so far this summer: Michele Di Gregorio from Monza, Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, Khephren Thuram from OGC Nice and Juan Cabal from Hellas Verona.

They have also reached an agreement with Atalanta for the transfer of Teun Koopmeiners, and a new defender and possibly a new team of wingers are also on the cards before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
