An intersection in the northern district of Hanover will be changed to improve traffic flow, the district said.

As a result of a traffic study by PennDOT and the community, stop signs at the intersection of Moul Avenue and Fame Avenue will change direction next month.

The traffic study, provided free of charge to the municipality, was conducted in July 2023 and suggested that moving the stop signs would improve traffic flow.

Currently, drivers on Moul Avenue must stop at the intersection, while Fame Avenue is a thoroughfare with no stop signs.

As a result of a traffic study, the municipality will replace these stop signs so that drivers will have to stop on Fame Avenue and Moul Avenue will become a thoroughfare without stop signs.

The conversion will be completed on September 19, 2024, according to the municipality’s statement.

In the meantime, the intersection will become a continuous stop for 30 days beginning Monday, August 19, 2024, to give drivers time to adjust to traffic changes.

The change was approved during the Hanover City Council’s April 2024 meeting, where the motion passed unanimously.

During the March 2024 Hanover County Public Safety Committee meeting, Public Works Director AJ Grimm stated that this change is part of preparatory work for upcoming improvements on Broadway and nearby Eisenhower Drive.

At the same time as the stop sign changes, the stop signs at the dead end of East Walnut Street, around a corner near the intersection, will also be removed as they are no longer required.

There is no cross traffic at this point because traffic from East Walnut Street can only proceed right onto Fame Avenue and traffic from Fame Avenue can only proceed left onto East Walnut Street without crossing a lane.
