North Carolina Agriculture Commissioner warns of mislabeled and uncontrolled foods that could pose a danger to pets

Pet owners are warned not to feed their dogs a brand of food sold in North Carolina that not only lacks ingredients on the label but also has not been reviewed by a state agency.

North Carolina Agriculture Secretary Steve Troxler said a routine inspection at Proformance Pet Supply in Greensboro found that seven different B&B products were missing information on their labels and could pose a danger to pets.

“The product label was missing important information, and because the pet food products contain ingredients that pose a potential risk of pathogen contamination, they could put your pets at risk,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “If you purchased and still have this product, please do not give it to your pets.”

George Ferguson, director of the Department of Agriculture’s feed division, said the products may have been distributed across the state and may still be available in pet stores despite efforts to remove them from shelves.

“We urge consumers to check their refrigerators and freezers and discard these products,” Ferguson said. “If you have B&B pet food, stop giving it to your pets and dispose of it in a secure container where other animals, including wildlife, cannot access it.”

Animal owners may report complaints by calling the Animal Feed Program Office at 984-236-4820 or emailing the complaint details to the NC Animal Feed Program at [email protected].

The foods include:

  • B&B Hi-Pro
  • B&B Nutro
  • B&B special order
  • B&B Premium
  • B&B Super
  • B&B Super Treats
  • B&B X Factor
