Ascension Sacred Heart opens new emergency room in Perdido Key, strengthening local emergency services

PERDIDO KEY, Fla. – The Perdido Key area is set to see more emergency services. Ascension Sacred Heart has announced plans to build a new freestanding emergency department, with completion scheduled for summer 2025.

According to a press release, the emergency department will be approximately 11,000 square feet in size and will consist of a triage area, a resuscitation room, nine treatment rooms, and CT and X-ray equipment. The facility will employ more than 40 people.

“This addition ensures that residents in southwest Escambia County receive the timely, high-quality healthcare they need,” Will Condon, president and CEO of Sacred Heart Pensacola, said in the release. “As our community grows, it is up to us to meet their healthcare needs and grow with them.”

Sacred Heart’s primary care services in Perdido Key have been in existence for over 35 years. The organization provided the area with its first health center in July 2017, offering rehab, imaging, primary care, laboratory and specialty care.

“The addition of the emergency department underscores Sacred Heart’s commitment to providing residents with access to high-quality health care,” the press release states. “This will bring mission-driven health care to more patients in Northwest Florida.”

Over the past six years, a freestanding emergency department was built at Navarre and on Nine Mile Road. Sacred Heart says this reinforces their commitment to serving both Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

“Northwest Florida is growing rapidly and Sacred Heart is constantly looking for ways to meet the needs of our changing community,” said Michael Shaw, chief strategy officer for Ascension Florida, in the press release. “Our freestanding emergency departments are supported by the award-winning care provided by Sacred Heart Pensacola and provide additional peace of mind for anyone in this area who needs emergency care.”

Facility operations are managed by Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola and Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart. The region’s only Level I trauma center is located in Pensacola.
