New York Giants quarterback Drew Lock suffered a hip injury in Thursday’s opening win over the Detroit Lions, but it is still unclear how long he will be out.
The Giants initially downplayed Lock’s injury, saying it was minor and insignificant. Later, several conflicting reports suggested he could be out for a few days or even several weeks.
On Monday, before the team took the field for practice, head coach Brian Daboll again indicated that Lock would only be out for a few days.

Daboll also said the team will not draft or sign a backup quarterback, instead relying on tight end Tyree Jackson as an emergency option.
Brian Daboll says the Giants are NOT currently signing another quarterback, even though Drew Lock is not expected to practice this week. He said they will prepare TE Tyree Jackson to be used as the 3rd QB against the Texans if the need arises.

Jackson, 26, who originally signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2019 when Daboll was their offensive coordinator, began his NFL career as a quarterback before later converting to tight end in 2021 as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Back in college, as a member of the Buffalo Bulls (MAC), Jackson appeared in 33 games and completed 55.8% of his passes for 6,999 yards, 49 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. He also ran for another 757 yards and 16 touchdowns.
While Lock recovers, Jackson will play some snaps at quarterback in practice, but it remains to be seen if he will play in a proper preseason game.
