PSN account bans usually occur due to a common error

I am surprised at the amount of panic thatPSN account suspension” posts I see almost daily when I browse the internet. It’s frustrating when your account gets banned, and you tend to blame Sony, “corporate greed,” etc. But in the vast majority of cases, the problem lies with the customer. Your PSN account was banned because of you.

A large number of PSN account suspensions result from the same cardinal sin: Chargeback

In the last week alone, I have discovered dozens of new threads on Reddit where people complained about their PSN account being locked after a chargeback. Sony’s terms of service are clear on this: a chargeback indicates “suspected fraud or account takeover” and your account will be temporary forbidden.

This player learned the hard way that there are no “justified” chargebacks and you can’t just dispute a payment with your bank because you didn’t like the product. This player used his mother’s credit card and found that his account was frozen because his mother reversed the charge. And this player had his nephew buy some games and then initiated a chargeback to get the games back because his nephew misbehaved.

Fortunately, you can get the ban lifted by submitting a request to Sony and paying off the debt. But beware: repeated chargebacks are a surefire way to get permanently banned.
