TRENTON, NJ – Come get a free ride, NJ Transit riders.

Governor Phil Murphy on Thursday announced a fare waiver for all NJ Transit rides on all systems from August 26 to September 2. All fares will be waived during this period.

Monthly ticket buyers will automatically receive a 25% discount when purchasing their monthly ticket for September.

Murphy said it was a thank you to the passengers who NJ Transit service issues above the last monthswhich, according to NJ Transit, connects to Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor – the busiest corridor in the country.

According to Murphy’s office, Amtrak and NJ Transit are working to improve service on the route: NJ Transit has increased inspectionswhile Amtrak works to repair its overhead power system, signals and substations.

“Knowing our commuters have faced many disruptions this summer, we are providing NJ TRANSIT riders with a one-week fare waiver,” Murphy said. “As we work diligently with Amtrak to investigate and resolve the issues that arose this summer, particularly on the Northeast Corridor, we hope this fare waiver will provide some relief for our commuters. We also encourage New Jerseyans to take advantage of this opportunity, and we remain grateful to the many New Jerseyans who rely on public transportation.
