Has “Mamma Mia 3” been confirmed?

When speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024, Christine — who played Tanya in Mummy Mia! And Mamma Mia! Here we go again — said the franchise producer Judy Cramer has already come up with a storyline for a sequel.

“I was with Judy Craymer at our favorite bar in London,” Christine told the outlet, adding: “She is planning Mamma Mia 3. She explained to me the plot, how it’s going to happen. That’s all I can say about it!”

Christine then pointed out that this wasn’t an “Oh, I wish it could happen!” situation because “Judy Craymer makes things happen. She made number two happen, and it was a phenomenal success. I wouldn’t put it past Judy Craymer to bring everyone back together.”

The actress also joked that she “hopes” the cast “will all be on some fabulous Greek or Croatian island having a great time.”

When is the release date of “Mamma Mia 3”?

Since the plot is still in development, the production process has not even started yet, so a release date is unknown. If production officially begins in 2024, the film could have a potential release date in 2025 or 2026. However, it seems that the producer has been working on the film’s plot for years.

In 2020, Judy spoke to Daily Mail about her thoughts on a third film. At the time, the musical producer was “hit by the COVID fog” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I think one day there will be another movie, because it’s supposed to be a trilogy,” she told the outlet. “I know Universal (Pictures) wants me to do it.”

What did the cast say about “Mamma Mia 3”?

Based on their previous comments, the cast is fully in favor of doing another movie! During a previous interview with Radio timesAmanda said, “Yes, absolutely,” when it came to making another film. Even Christine added at the time, “We’re ready for the next sequel because it’s just so much fun.”
