Video of Barron Trump speaking with a “Slovenian accent” resurfaces

Video footage of Donald Trump’s son Barron Trump as a young child speaking with a “Slovenian” accent has surfaced on social media.

As the youngest of the former president’s five children and Donald Trump’s only child with wife Melania Trump, 18-year-old Barron Trump largely stayed out of the spotlight during his father’s time in office. In recent months, however, the teenager has become more involved in his father’s political scene.

Barron Trump received a standing ovation at one of his father’s campaign events in July. This week, former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said Donald Trump is turning to his youngest son for advice on how to win the support of younger voters in the presidential race.

Given the increasing attention Barron Trump is receiving, a video was shared this week on X (formerly Twitter) showing then-four-year-old Barron Trump speaking with an accent very similar to that of his Slovenian-born mother.

“Here’s footage of Barron speaking at age 4 – with a Slovenian accent,” the social media user wrote, among other things, when he posted the clip from an April 2010 appearance by the Trumps on CNN. Larry King Live.

In the footage, New York-born Barron Trump is told by his mother to say “Hi Larry,” after which the boy waves enthusiastically at the camera and then jumps around his father’s office in front of his parents.

“I like my suitcase,” Barron Trump said abruptly as he picked up the object. Then he asked his mother, “Do I have to go to school now?”

“Yes, you will have lunch and then go to school,” said the former First Lady, who emigrated to the United States in 1996 and has been married to Donald Trump since 2005.

Later in the clip, the boy is seen kneeling in front of his open suitcase while his father says, “Now you can read, write and do math.”

When the recording was over, Donald and Melania Trump were seen in the studio opposite Larry King, who said of their son: “He has an accent.”

“He does,” said Melania Trump. “He spends most of his time with me.”

When asked by the late radio host King what he thought about his son’s accent, Donald Trump said: “I think he’s great. Anything he does is fine with me.”

“He actually speaks three languages,” Melania Trump added, to which her husband said their son was “smart.”

While Barron Trump has rarely spoken in the media so far, footage shared on X earlier this year showed him striking an American tone in a conversation with a crowd.

After years of keeping a relatively low profile, it was announced in May that Barron Trump, who graduated from high school that same month, would serve as Florida’s delegate to the Republican National Convention in July.

The announcement said he would attend the event along with his half-siblings Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump.

But just one day later, the teenager’s mother dismissed his prospects of running as a delegate, saying through a spokesperson: “Although Barron is honored to have been selected as a delegate by the Republican Party of Florida, he unfortunately declines to participate due to other commitments.”

Barron Trump, who himself now rarely appears in public, is expected to remain a visible presence as his father fights for a second term in the White House. President Joe Biden announced last month that he was dropping out of the race due to concerns about his age and mental capacity. The 81-year-old Biden’s decision makes Donald Trump, 78, the oldest presidential candidate in U.S. history. Vice President Harris is expected to face Donald Trump in the election in November.
