The titanium sports watch “The Twelve” by Christopher Ward

British watch company Christopher Ward was founded in 2005 by three friends – Mike France, Peter Ellis and Chris Ward – with the vision of developing high-quality, Swiss-made watches that were affordable for both enthusiasts and casual wearers.

Over the years, Christopher Ward has built a solid reputation in the watch industry. Their direct sales model has not only made high-quality watches more affordable, but has also fostered a sense of community among their customers. The Twelve Titan

The Twelve Titanium is Christopher Ward’s latest integrated bracelet sports watch. While the Twelve shares undeniable similarities with other watches, such as elements from the Omega Aqua Terra, Girard-Perregaux Laureato, Zenith Defy and of course the pieces designed by Genta, it still manages to develop its own distinctive identity. The design team, led by Adrian Buchmann, Head of Product Design at Christopher Ward and one of the main designers behind the acclaimed Czapek Antarctique, has masterfully distilled these inspirations into a coherent and original creation.

The Twelve can be appreciated as a younger sibling to the much more expensive Czapek, as it embodies a similar poetic approach to Genta, who carried his designs from one brand to another with minor adjustments. Although The Twelve is not in the same league, its emotional resonance is undeniable and invites one to appreciate the thoughtful design process that went into its creation.

The Twelve’s dial features a textured design motif that repeats the Christopher Ward two-flag logo. This intricate pattern adds depth and sophistication to the watch, enhancing the overall aesthetic and giving it a premium feel. One of the standout features of the Twelve’s dial is the color-coordinated date window at 6 o’clock, an uncommon detail even on more expensive watches. While divisive, the redesigned logo adds unique character to the watch and further enhances its individuality.

The Twelve Titanium in the featured Nebula Purple variant immediately catches the eye with its bold, artistic dial. The textured surface features an impressive gradient effect that fades from a deep, cosmic purple to an almost black hue reminiscent of the vastness of space. The dial’s intricate cross pattern adds a layer of sophistication and visual interest.

The lightweight titanium construction is a key highlight. With a case weight of just 41 grams and a mere 93 grams with the bracelet, this watch is incredibly comfortable on the wrist and offers durability without the weight usually associated with luxury watches. The polished titanium not only provides strength, but also gives the watch a sleek, modern look that looks deceptively similar to steel from a distance. The bright purple contrasting with the polished titanium with the bracelet is a stunning combination.

Measuring 40mm in diameter and just 8.95mm thick, the case is slim enough to fit comfortably under a shirt cuff, yet robust enough to withstand the rigors of everyday wear. Despite its 40mm diameter, the watch wears exceptionally well, with a compact 44.5mm lug spacing achieved through thoughtful design considerations. A dodecagonal bezel (twelve-sided figure) adds a sense of fluidity and visual appeal. The watch’s water resistance to 100 meters adds to its practicality, making it suitable for swimming and other water activities.

Beneath its stylish exterior, The Twelve Titanium houses a COSC Chronometer-certified Swiss Made Sellita SW300-1 automatic movement, known for its reliability and precision. This movement has a 56-hour power reserve, so the watch will continue to run smoothly even after a few days of not being worn.

Christopher Ward has done its homework and identified market trends, recognizing the growing demand for sports watches with an integrated bracelet. However, it is the company’s execution of the watch construction that deserves praise. From the case proportions and dial structure to the high-quality bracelet and thoughtful design elements, The Twelve offers exceptional value for money.

The retail price for Christopher Ward The Twelve Titanium Nebula Purple is $1,895.
