Local 10 photographer witnesses chaotic rollover accident at red light

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Florida. – Video shows a chaotic scene that unfolded in North Miami Beach Saturday night when an SUV rolled onto its side after a crash at North Miami Avenue and Northwest 167th Street.

It happened right in front of Local 10 News photographer Josh Salazar as he waited at a red light. He filmed the aftermath on his cell phone.

“I saw the black SUV driving normally in its lane, and then this gold car tried to overtake the SUV. They immediately collided,” he said.

He helped the Good Samaritans who were rushing to help those trapped in the overturned car by running to his car, getting a tripod and trying to break the windshield.

“You want to break the windshield? Use this,” Salazar can be heard saying on a cellphone video. “Use this to break the windshield.”

The impact caused the black SUV to lie on its side and the gold sedan to be significantly damaged.

There were five people in the SUV, including two small children.

“When they were all outside, they were just in shock,” Salazar said. “They were crying and really didn’t know what had happened. In fact, one of the drivers asked me what had happened: ‘If you know, just tell me.'”

All five occupants of the SUV were able to climb out of the car safely and the driver of the golden limousine also survived the accident.

The vehicles were later towed while the Miami-Dade Fire Department and North Miami Beach Police Department began investigating the cause of the accident.

Salazar said everyone involved was conscious afterward and able to leave.
