There is an ending in Baldur’s Gate 3 that was originally described as “impossible” until someone hacked the game to find it.
It’s no secret that Baldur’s Gate 3 is popular with the gaming community. Since its overwhelmingly positive release in 2023, the game took the gaming conversation by storm, eventually winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards.
Players absolutely love the enormous choice the game offers them, from building their Tav, to choosing party members, to who they romance, and their own morals. There are an unlimited combination of playthroughs that keep you coming back for more.
Because of this, many players are still out there in Faerun and exploring what the game has to offer. This includes a YouTuber named SlimX, who was inspired by the idea of finding an ending that wasn’t physically possible without hacking into the game.
To celebrate the game’s one-year anniversary, Larian shared a whole bunch of stats with the player base. One of them included a nice detail about the rarest ending, which was initially only shown to 34 players. This is the Lae’zel ending, where you decide to end it all after Vlaakith refuses the Ascension.
SlimX has shown how to achieve this rare ending. To do so, you must remain loyal to Vlaakith until the end of the game, where you must free Orpheus and assume the form of a Mind Flayer. After that, you must choose to kill Orpheus, which will allow you to request ascension, which Vlaakith will ignore.
Naturally, SlimX wanted a bigger challenge, so he pursued an alternate ending that no one had seen before. This is how the YouTuber discovered a new approach that is physically impossible to unlock and only exists deep within the game’s files.
This ending is somewhat similar, with Lae’zel still being rejected by Vlaakith. However, instead, you choose not to become a Mind Flayer, nor do you kill Orpheus. This causes Lae’zel to retain her true form, although her ending is the same.
The reason this ending is impossible is because Orpheus stays alive and the option to ascend from Vlaakith is skipped, while if Orpheus turns into a Mind Flayer he kills himself. That means there’s no way to get this right now without a bit of tinkering around in the background.
