Former Manchester City and England goalkeeper and current Match of the Day expert Joe Hart spoke to BBC Radio Manchester ahead of the new season.

We spent a good 10 minutes talking about the role of the expert and his contribution to Saturday evenings, but we couldn’t avoid talking about his old club and its chances this season.

“At the moment they are the deserved favourites for the Premier League. They have given no reason why you shouldn’t support them,” said Hart.

“But I have to stress what a wonderful, fantastic league this is. So many twists and turns. So much quality. So many teams putting so much effort into it. So many resources to knock them off that pedestal.”

“I think this will be an incredible journey.”

The big question for the Blues is whether they have the depth needed to maintain a title challenge and fight for other major titles.

“Everything is taken into account, that’s what I know about this club,” he replied.

Manchester City recently sold Julian Alvarez for a record fee. Hart says it is a decision they “would not have taken lightly”, but many fans doubt that there is a lack of competent replacements for Erling Haaland and Rodri.

“Knowing what I know, how they operate and how they work, I trust that they will fill the positions they need to fill well, have the depth they need and put themselves in the best position possible.”
