Tim Walz and former President Donald Trump stop in Colorado for fundraisers

DENVER – Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump each stopped in Colorado in recent days to raise private donations.

Walz’s visit is part of a five-state trip he is taking this week, his first solo trip since being selected by Vice President Kamala Harris as her running mate for 2024.

The fundraiser in Denver was hosted by Democratic major donor, activist and software entrepreneur Tim Gill. Cameras were not allowed at the event, which was attended by more than 150 people.

According to a Printpool reporter who was granted access to the building, Walz, along with Colorado Governor Jared Polis, mocked former President Trump’s false claims that photos of the large crowds at the Harris-Walz rallies were created using artificial intelligence.

“I assure you, it was not artificial intelligence in Detroit. And I also assure you that there will be no artificial intelligence on any of the ballots you will cast,” Walz said.

Walz said he and Harris believe in “the politics of kindness.” But the Minnesota governor also warned against confusing kindness with weakness.

Colorado may not be a swing state, but there is something here that candidates from both parties are looking for: money. Tickets to Walz’s fundraiser started at $1,000 and went up to $50,000.

Walz’s visit came just days after Trump also stopped in Colorado to attend a fundraiser in Aspen. Tickets to Trump’s event started at $25,000 per couple.

Another big name will be coming to the state this week. U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson will visit Loveland on Friday to raise funds for Republican Rep. Gabe Evans, who is challenging Democratic Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo in Colorado’s 8th general election.th Congressional district. Analysts say it could be one of the closest races in November and could help decide which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives.
