Duluth Denfeld wants to build on last season’s success

DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – Head coach Erik Lofald and his Hunters’ mission last year was to at least achieve a winning record. Duluth Denfeld did just that, finishing the 2023 season with a final record of 7-2.

Despite losing to Hermantown 10-6 in the Section 7AAAA semifinals last year, the Hunters are proud of the foundation they have built for their winning culture.

Coach Lofald gives great praise to last year’s senior students for setting new standards.

“The cool thing about last year was that the senior group wanted to have a great season. They had everything in their hands and we supported them and coached them,” Lofald said. “It’s really their season. If they want to be successful, it depends on how hard they worked this summer. And that’s what they want. They want that pressure and they want to be the team to beat.”

One change for the 2024 season is that Lee Brooks will take over the quarterback position. The junior said he was a little nervous but is confident in his team and the culture of Duluth Denfeld football.

“Lofald has a great motto of ‘one team, one family, winning together’. I feel like we are all together and ready to win,” Brooks said at training on Wednesday.

The journey to another successful season begins for the Hunters on August 29th with an away game against Mora.
