In a recent interview with Elena Rosberg by Radiocast BG, Robert Halford was named after the meaning of the album title “Invincible Shield” for a band like JUDAS PRIEST. He replied: “JUDAS PRIEST has defended the belief in heavy metal, not just the music, but everything related to heavy metal, since we started. And when we made this record, my job as a lyricist was to find ideas, to find expressions, to find song titles that not only express the music you make when you make an album, but also to give it a title, a meaningful title that sends a strong message, an idea that says: “This is JUDAS PRIESTthis is our music and this is an invincible shield.’ I remember the day I was sitting at home in Phoenix and I was sitting at my laptop and I had a pencil, a pencil and some paper and I was writing things down. And I thought, I thought of the word ‘invincible.’ And then all of a sudden out of nowhere… That’s the joy of creativity. Artists will tell you, we don’t know where these things come from. You have to grab them quickly, like lightning in a bottle. And then I thought of the word ‘shield’ and I put the two together, ‘invincible shield.’ Like ‘Wow, that’s JUDAS PRIEST. We’re an invincible shield in heavy metal, we’ve been doing this for so long.’ And then I say, ‘Wait a minute, wait a minute. Each of us, every single person on this planet, has an invincible shield within us.’ And what I mean by that is that we’re all blessed by God with this never-ending source of faith, this never-ending source of hope, this never-ending source of preservation, this never-ending source of provision for ourselves, our families, and our friends. Everything we do together comes in the form of the power of an invincible shield. So that was a bonus. That wasn’t just the title for the music, it was a title for everybody.”

Halford added: “We all have an invincible shield. If you think about some of the things that each of us has experienced in our lives, they were challenging. We had a dark moment, whether it was a medical issue, whether it was work, whether it was something very, very powerful. But we survived, we fought through it. We look back now and ask ourselves, ‘How did I get through that?’ That is your invincible shield. That is the power that humanity has to survive in every way that that word suggests. What does survive mean? It means many, many things. So the joy of the title of the album being so expansive was once again an added blessing. So there you have it. Invincible shield for JUDAS PRIEST and invincible shield for humanity.”

When Rosberg asked Robbery if it is “overwhelming at times” to have such a “huge responsibility” as a person who delivers certain messages to a large audience, Halford replied: “Yes, it can be. It can be. You have to find a balance. You have to find a harmony. I love the power of words. Words can do many, many things. The way you choose words, the way you put words together, they can lift you up, they can give you comfort, they can give you hope, they can give you all of those things. They can also bring negativity, they can also bring destruction, they can bring war, they can bring political fear and unrest, when it comes to separating light from darkness, truth from lies, all of those things can be brought together by words. I love words. I love putting words together. So when I wrote, ‘Panic attack’and I’m talking about the way social media can be used in a very effective and sometimes (negative way) through disinformation and conspiracy theories. All these attitudes, all these emotions, all these ideas come from words. They come from people speaking, they come from people sending instant messages, writing in different forums and quorums on the internet. So I think deeply about such things and try to translate these personal feelings and ideas into songs that are still full of joy and power and excitement and energy and good feelings. And that’s a tricky thing, because JUDAS PRIEST is not a political band. We’re not a socially motivated band. We don’t comment too much on those world issues, world events, but I thought for this record I would give a benefit of the doubt because our fans are smart, our fans are intelligent. They understand this world that we live in when we talk about this side of social media, this side of the internet, the double-edged sword of the internet, the good, the bad, the light, the dark, the yin, the yang. And it turns out that ‘Panic attack’ was the most rewarding song we’ve made for our fans.

“So, yes, there Is a responsibility”, Robbery “With your creativity comes the responsibility to do your best and not to accept anything. Work really hard. We spend a enormous a lot of time making these songs because we value them. They’re going to be around long after we’re gone. So you want to leave something behind that brings joy, brings passion, excitement, energy and makes you think about the song. What are people going to think? ‘Panic attack’ in a hundred years? I’m thinking about that. (Laughs) I am thinking so deeply about so many aspects of what we are planning to do in JUDAS PRIEST.”

Halford added: “So, yes, responsibility. The biggest responsibility is when you’re on stage. You’re on stage, you pour your heart out, you pour your soul into the performance, and you have a responsibility to give your all to that show.”
